Well first off, let’s see, how long have I officially been back in North Carolina? Hmmmm…today is the tenth day, ninth if you don’t count the evening that I arrive with my two truck loads of shit (despite forgetting to bring my desk chair and leaving some other things behind because we ran out of room). But anyhow, here I am nine or so days later, still no paycheck (looks like it is going to take a while longer than I thought to get one of those, sad isn’t it), yet somehow working over a hundred man hours in the mere 12 hours of daylight ever since my arrival, most of it slave work mind you!

Now seeing how I am living at home for the time being, I have felt the obligation to share some of my spare time with my family in order to make the best of my time here, but it seems now that every waking moment that I am at home I spend it doing some busy body task around the house; scooping cat shit (even though we have an electric cat box), putting together worthless workout equipment for my mom, making multiple trips to the dump for my dad and the list goes on. I even had to take a day out of my schedule in order to wait on the satellite man to come by, even though my dad is retired, go figure that one out! I have even attempted to donate some of my time to the infamous family time by going out to buy The Village and watch it with ma and pa-dukes, but even that was tension I could have gone without. My family and I watch movies in very different ways: me without questions, mom with lots of questions and dad pops a question every few moments, whenever he is done snoring and feels the need to grace everyone with the fact that he hasn’t seen anything past the opening credits.

Needless to say, the past week and a half has reassured my thoughts as to why I wanted to go out of state for college and why I should have considered going out of the country more seriously. About the only saving grace or refuge that I have been able to take advantage of recently is slipping out every, and I do mean every, night to go hand out with friends. More often than not you can find my just up 485 at Bailey’s enjoying the fine taste of a Guinness or the refreshing feel of Johnny on the rocks while basking myself in the dimly lit rays of the bar lights above the pool tables with my friend Daniel. I also got the chance to finish third, out of about 15 or so contestants, in a Madden 2005 tournament. Now I know to most of you this seems outrageously adolescent, but allow me to remind you of how great it is to find one’s self in the arms of childhood fancies when the stress of the grown-up world winds you tighter than Lauren Graham’s ass.

But all in all, despite my moaning and groaning, things aren’t as bad as they seem: I am eating better than I have in years, I have been able to read nearly every book that I got for and before Christmas and tonight may be the beginning of a wonderful musical career in Charlotte. So I guess the key is to just bite my tongue and just ride this one out.
